COG Kids

At City of God Church, we want to come alongside parents and give every child that comes through our doors the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

FIRST TIME VISITING?
We have a small parking lot dedicated to families on the south side of the building (on Brown St.). When you enter through those doors, you will see a check-in table with a friendly volunteer who will be happy to help you through the check-in process and answer any questions you may have. If you have questions ahead of time, please contact  and our Children's Ministry Director would love to talk to you and help you feel comfortable ahead of your visit!

What will my child learn at City of God?

Our classes currently use The Gospel Project for Kids as our primary teaching curriculum. You can find out more about these lessons by clicking the link.

Who will be watching my kids?

All children's ministry volunteers receive training prior to serving. We also have a current background check on file for everyone who serves. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible concerning the safety of your children so please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. ( )

Health or allergy concerns?

We give snacks to every class, but only give cheerios to our nursery and toddler classes and welch's fruit snacks to all other classes. We have found that these are safe for almost all allergies. If this poses an issue for your child, please reach out to our Children's Minister ( )

What classes are available for my child?

You will find a current class listing below.

9:00 Service

At the 9:00 service we have a nursery for children ages 0-4 all together. Our 10:45 service has our full Children's Ministry with more narrow age ranges.

Nursery

We offer a fully-staffed nursery for children ages newborn through 18 months old.

Toddler

Our toddler room (ages 18-36 months) consists of playtime at the beginning and end of the service, with about 15 minutes of structured time for a story, snack (cheerios) and coloring.

Preschool

We have separate classes for our 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds. These classes consist of play-time for about 20 minutes followed by a time of music, lesson, snacks and fun activities for the kids.

Elementary

We currently offer three different classes for students in elementary school. These classes include Bible teaching, activities, and scripture memorization through fun, age-appropriate instruction.

  • Kindergarten
  • 1st & 2nd Grade
  • 3rd - 5th Grade
Student Ministry

City of God offers a ministry for 6th - 12th grade students on Sunday nights. Make sure to check the calendar to find out more about their biweekly gatherings.

Interested in finding out more about City of God's ministry for junior and senior high students? Contact our student ministry leaders: Devin and Alli Nelson ( ).

Special Needs

We believe that every child is made in the image of God. If your child has special needs, please complete this form or contact our Director of Children's Ministry  ( ) to discuss any accommodations or support that we can provide! We want them (and you!) to feel safe and welcome at our church as we teach them about God.

Family Worship

Occasionally, City of God will invite children to worship with their parents on Sunday morning. On these Sundays, we will still have the nursery class available.

Celebration Sunday Lyrics 2023
Apr 27, 2023

The Lord's Prayer (It's Yours)

Father let Your Kingdom come
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
Father let Your Kingdom come
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us, forgive us
As we forgive the ones who sinned against us
Forgive them
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from the evil one
Let Your kingdom come
Father let Your Kingdom come
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
Father let Your Kingdom come
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us, forgive us
As we forgive the ones who sinned against us
Forgive them
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from the evil one
Let Your kingdom come
It's Yours, it's Yours
All Yours, all Yours
The kingdom, the power, the glory are Yours
It's Yours, it's Yours
All Yours, all Yours
Forever and ever the kingdom is Yours
It's Yours, it's Yours
All Yours, all Yours
The kingdom, the power, the glory are Yours
It's Yours, it's Yours
All Yours, all Yours
Forever and ever the kingdom is Yours
Father let Your Kingdom come
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
Father let Your Kingdom come
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart

Leaning

Leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms

Leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms

Let my yes be yes
To you, oh, Lord
Let my no be no
To things of this world
If I rise or fall
If I stand at all
I am leaning on Your everlasting arms
What a fellowship
What a joy divine
What a priceless gift
God, I'm Yours and You are mine
Let my restless soul
Be still and know
I am leaning on Your everlasting arms
From the morning sun
And mercies new
To the evening stars
Every promise is true
As I walk this world
I'm helped by You
I am leaning on Your everlasting arms
What a fellowship
What a joy divine
What a priceless gift
God, I'm Yours and You are mine
Let my restless soul
Be still and know
I am leaning on Your everlasting arms
The more I'm leaning
The more I'm flying
Feels less like dying
More like living for Heaven on Earth
The more I'm leaning
The more I'm flying
Feels less like dying
More like living for Heaven on Earth
The more I'm leaning
The more I'm flying
Feels less like dying
More like living for Heaven on Earth
For Heaven on Earth
What a fellowship
What a joy divine
What a priceless gift
God, I'm Yours and You are mine
Let my restless soul
Be still and know
I am leaning on Your everlasting arms
I am leaning on Your everlasting arms

Living Hope

How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke your name into the night
Then through the darkness
Your loving kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The king of kings calls me His own
Beautiful savior, I'm yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus, yours is the victory, whoa!
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Jesus Christ, my living hope
Oh God, you are my living hope

Christ Be Magnified

Were creation suddenly articulate
With a thousand tongues to lift one cry
Then from North to South and East to West
We'd hear Christ be magnified
Were the whole Earth echoing His eminence
His name would burst from sea and sky
From rivers to the mountain tops
We'd hear Christ be magnified
Oh! Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
Oh! Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
When every creature finds its inmost melody
And every human heart its native cry
Oh then in one enraptured hymn of praise
We'll sing Christ be magnified
Oh! Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
Oh! Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
I won't bow to idols, I'll stand strong and worship You
And if it puts me in the fire, I'll rejoice 'cause You're there too
I won't be formed by feelings, I hold fast to what is true
If the cross brings transformation then I'll be crucified with You
'Cause death is just the doorway into resurrection life
And if I join You in Your suffering, then I'll join You when You rise
And when You return in glory with all the angels and the saints
My heart will still be singing, my song will be the same
I won't bow to idols, I'll stand strong and worship You
And if it puts me in the fire, I'll rejoice 'cause You're there too
I won't be formed by feelings, I hold fast to what is true
If the cross brings transformation then I'll be crucified with You
'Cause death is just the doorway into resurrection life
And if I join You in Your suffering, then I'll join You when You rise
And when You return in glory with all the angels and the saints
My heart will still be singing, my song will be the same
Oh! Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
Oh! Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me
Oh! Christ be magnified
Let His praise arise
Christ be magnified in me
Oh! Christ be magnified
From the altar of my life
Christ be magnified in me

Thank You Jesus for the Blood

I was a wretch
I remember who I was
I was lost, I was blind
I was running out of time
Sin separated
The breach was far too wide
But from the far side of the chasm
You held me in your sight
So You made a way
Across the great divide
Left behind Heaven's throne
To build it here inside
And there at the cross
You paid the debt I owed
Broke my chains, freed my soul
For the first time I had hope
Thank you Jesus for the blood applied
Thank you Jesus, it has washed me white
Thank you Jesus, You have saved my life
Brought me from the darkness into glorious light
You took my place
Laid inside my tomb of sin
You were buried for three days
But then You walked right out again
And now death has no sting
And life has no end
For I have been transformed
By the blood of the lamb
Thank You Jesus for the blood applied (thank You Jesus)
Thank You Jesus, it has washed me white
Thank You Jesus, You have saved my life
Brought me from the darkness into glorious light
There is nothing stronger
Than the wonder working power of the blood
The blood
That calls us sons and daughters
We are ransomed by our Father
Through the blood
The blood
There is nothing stronger
Of the wonder working power of the blood
The blood
That calls us sons and daughters
We are ransomed by the Father
Through the blood
The blood
Thank You Jesus for the blood applied
Thank You Jesus, it have washed me white
Thank You Jesus, You have saved my life
Brought me from the darkness into glorious light
Glory to His name
Glory to His name
There to my heart was the blood applied
Glory to His name

Absent From Flesh

Absent from flesh, O blissful thought
What joy this moment brings
Freed from the blame my sin has brought,
From pain and death and its sting.
Absent from flesh, O glorious day!
In one triumphant stroke
My reckoning paid, my charges dropped,
And the bonds 'round my hands are broke.
I go where God and glory shine,
To one eternal day
And this failing body I now resign,
For the angels point my way
For the angels point my way .
Absent from flesh! Then rise, my soul,
Where feet nor wings could climb,
Beyond the sky, where planets roll,
And beyond all keep of time.
I go where God and glory shine,
To one eternal day
And this failing body I now resign,
For the angels point my way
For the angels point my way.
I go where God and glory shine,
To one eternal day
And this failing body I now resign,
For the angels point my way
Yes, I go where God and glory shine,
To one eternal day
And this failing body I now resign,
For the angels point my way
For the angels point my way.

Lyrics for Celebration Sunday
May 01, 2021
 Only Jesus Christ

Who is the way, the truth, the life?
Who is the Holy Word of light?
Who is the vision to our eyes?
Who is the love that will abide?

 Only Jesus, only Jesus
Who is truest life?
Only Jesus Christ
Only Jesus, only Jesus
Who is lifted high?
Only Jesus Christ

Who the purpose of our days?
Who is our hope that doesn’t fade?
Who is our courage and our strength?
Who is the fullness of our faith?

 Only Jesus, only Jesus
Who is truest life?
Only Jesus Christ
Only Jesus, only Jesus
Who is lifted high?
Only Jesus Christ
Only Jesus, only Jesus

You are The Way, The Truth, and The Life
You are The Blood, The Water, The Vine
You are The Word and You are The Light
Only Jesus, only Jesus

You are The Way, The Truth, and The Life
You are The Blood, The Water, The Vine
You are The Word and You are The Light
Only Jesus
Only Jesus, only Jesus

 Who is truest life?
Only Jesus Christ
Only Jesus, only Jesus
Who is lifted high?
Only Jesus Christ

You are The Way, The Truth, and The Life
You are The Blood, The Water, The Vine
You are The Word and You are The Light
Only Jesus, only Jesus

You are The Way, The Truth, and The Life
You are The Blood, The Water, The Vine
You are The Word and You are The Light
Only Jesus, only Jesus

Manifesto
We believe in the one true God
We believe in Father, Spirit, Son
We believe that good has won
And all of the people of God sing along

Amen, amen
Amen, amen

We are free, He died and lives again
We will be a people freed from sin
We'll be free, a kingdom with no end
And all of the people of God sing along
 Amen, amen
Amen, amen
Amen, amen, yeah

Our father who art in Heaven, hallowed by Thy name
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven
'Give us our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who have trespassed against us

Lord, lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom, power, and the glory forever

We're singing Amen, amen
Amen, amen
Amen, amen, yeah

Who You Say I Am

Who am I that the highest King
Would welcome me
I was lost but He brought me in
Oh His love for me
Oh His love for me

Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God
Yes I am

Free at last
He has ransomed me
His grace runs deep
While I was a slave to sin
Jesus died for me
Yes He died for me

Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God
Yes I am
In my Father’s house
There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God
Yes I am

I am chosen
Not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me
Not against me
I am who You say I am

Blessed Assurance

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
O what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long

Perfect submission, perfect delight
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blessed
Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love

This is our story, this is our song
Praising our savior all the day long
This is our story, this is our song
Praising our savior all the day long

Goodness of God

 I love You Lord
Oh Your mercy never fails me
All my days
I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
I will sing of the goodness of God

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In darkest nights
You are close like no other
I've known You as a father
I've known You as a friend
I have lived in the goodness of God

Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now, I give You everything
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me

King of Kings

In the darkness we were waiting
Without hope without light
Till from heaven You came running
There was mercy in Your eyes

To fulfil the law and prophets
To a virgin came the Word
From a throne of endless glory
To a cradle in the dirt

Praise the Father
Praise the Son
Praise the Spirit three in one
God of glory
Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings

To reveal the kingdom coming
And to reconcile the lost
To redeem the whole creation
You did not despise the cross

For even in Your suffering
You saw to the other side
Knowing this was our salvation
Jesus for our sake You died

And the morning that You rose
All of heaven held its breath
Till that stone was moved for good
For the Lamb had conquered death

And the dead rose from their tombs
And the angels stood in awe
For the souls of all who’d come
To the Father are restored

And the Church of Christ was born
Then the Spirit lit the flame
Now this gospel truth of old
Shall not kneel shall not faint

By His blood and in His Name
In His freedom I am free
For the love of Jesus Christ
Who has resurrected me

COVID-19 Update
Apr 05, 2021
City of God Family,

Recently, Governor Eric Holcomb announced that Indiana’s mask mandate would transition to a mask advisory on April 6. How will this announcement impact worship services at City of God? The following changes will go into effect this Sunday based on the Governor’s directives and conversations with the medical professionals at City of God.

Beginning this Sunday:

  • Our 9:45 and our 11:00 services will transition to a “masks recommended but not required” policy.
  • We will continue to require masks at our 8:30 service as an option for those who are not comfortable attending at 9:45 or 11:00.
  • We will continue to ask people to register for services through the end of April. We are not requiring registrations for our Celebration Sunday Service on May 2, and following that Sunday, we will no longer require registrations.
  • On May 9, we will transition to our summer schedule. As of now, those services will take place at 9:00 and 10:30 and, barring further announcements, will both operate under a “masks recommended but not required” policy.

Over the course of the past year, our elders committed to making decisions based on the directives of our elected officials and the advice of the medical professionals at City of God. Both of those groups are now instructing us that this is a reasonable course of action moving forward. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out. It was great to see so many of you at our Easter service yesterday, and we’re excited to see what God has in store for us in the coming months.

New Sermon: Warnings & Witnessing
Mar 22, 2021

What is the book of Revelation trying to teach us through the seven judgments of God that accompany the blowing of the "trumpets?" There are times when God's judgments are actually warnings to his creation to wake up before it is too late to turn back to him. If this is God's heart, how should the church respond?

You can listen to "Warnings & Witnessing" below:
