Missions

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age" - Matthew 28:19-20

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he gave his people a mission. God’s desire is that all people would have an opportunity to respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

City of God Church exists, therefore, to join God in this mission by loving Jesus, loving people and advancing the gospel. With His Spirit empowering us, we want to accomplish these things here in Lafayette.  And as we send out people from our church, we want to accomplish this mission on a global level, taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth.

The missions team at City of God was established to help further this missional focus within our community by coordinating opportunities to serve others and meet people’s needs while building relationships and sharing the love and Good News of Jesus Christ.

COG is excited to be on mission in our city, and we want you to join us! We have an upcoming informational meeting & ice cream social in October that we'd love for you to attend. Check the Events page for more details and to sign up, and while you're there; see some of the other service opportunities you have to partner with us.

Local Ministries

Food Finders

Food Finders Food Bank is an organization that provides food for people and helps to educate and alleviate food insecurity in North Central Indiana.

One Saturday a month, a team from City of God volunteers at Food Finders, located at 2200 Elmwood Avenue - Suite C7. We help stock shelves, greet customers, and build relationships with people.  Through the end of 2021, one of the ministry teams at COG has volunteered to take a time slot each month.

Matrix LifeCare Center

Matrix offers a host of services to women in the Greater Lafayette Area. If you need support before, during, or after pregnancy, Matrix is an incredible resource.

City of God partners with Matrix by volunteering at various events and participating in fund-raising efforts for their ministry. Stay tuned for more details as we find specific ways to support Matrix, including information on the baby bottle fundraiser in Spring.

Veteran's Home

COG wants to care for the elderly in our community by investing in a local nursing home. We want to have a consistent presence with the residents at Indiana Veteran's Home, whether by sending cards in the mail on a regular basis, participating in a Christmas donations drive to bless the people there, or by visiting residents to build relationships and share the gospel.
If you, your family, or city group is looking for a way to serve and encourage others; consider setting aside some time to send cards to nursing home residents.  Contact Pastor Tim if you'd like to receive more details about this and other opportunities. And stay tuned for more details on our upcoming Christmas gift drive for our friends at the Veteran's Home!

Rake-A-Thon

Every year in the middle of Fall, a group from City of God hosts a rake-a-thon to help rake up leaves in the neighborhood surrounding Lafayette Christian School.  This gives us the chance to invest in our area, as well as meet our neighbors and build relationships with people living next to us.

To register, you can head over to the Events page!

Missionaries

As a church, COG partners with a number of missionaries to provide financial and prayer support; helping to equip people who take the gospel near and far.

For a list of missionaries we support, as well as ways that you can support them through prayer, fiscal and other means; email our Connections Pastor, Tim Kurtz.

If you are someone seeking missionary funding at City of God, you can fill out a support application here.

Church Planting

Acts 29

City of God is a part of the Acts 29 Network. Acts 29 seeks to "plant churches that plant churches" so that the gospel can go into all the world. We support Acts 29 through regular financial giving, participating in training events for new church planters, and supporting church plants in our area.

Learn more about one of Acts 29's latest initiatives "Church in Hard Places."

SBC Cooperative Program

As a member of the Southern Baptist Convention, City of God regularly contributes to the SBC Cooperative Program. This fund allows SBC churches to pool their resources in order to provide "a unified and comprehensive funding blanket over statewide, national, and international missions ministries."
